Infant care is one of the most rewarding and challenging jobs that you can do. You are paired up with one other teacher and given eight babies to care for that all come from different households. Your day consists of many diaper changes, feedings, and play sessions that cater to the needs of each baby. Although it’s a little overwhelming caring for so many infants, there are some things you can do to make it a little easier. Here are a few infant care tips to make feedings, naps, and building relationships with parents a little easier.
Bottle feeding – Infant care isn’t easy for anyone. It takes a special individual to be able to care for several infants with different needs at the same time. One of the most important things to remember is that every child has different preferences when it comes to feeding, changing, and sleeping. A good first step to set yourself up for success is to ask the parents what works best for their child when they drop them off. This will take out the guessing game and help you succeed as you’re trying to meet the needs of every infant.
Sleeping in a crib – Most daycare centers don’t allow swaddles because they could cause a baby to suffocate if they come undone. However, most daycare centers do allow baby sleep sacks which work just as well for most babies. Our infant care teachers will do their best to create a safe, warm place that fits each baby’s needs while they are at daycare. If your baby likes to nap in a swing, we can figure out something to do for them while they are at our daycare center.
Harder on parents than babies – Our infant care teachers understand just how hard it is for parents to drop off their baby with us and will do their best to give you peace of mind. We can send updates and pictures of your baby throughout the day to keep you in the loop. We want to do what we can to alleviate the guilt that mothers often have when they have to drop their babies off at a daycare center.
